Tell us about your business and connection to South Pasadena.
SmileHaus Orthodontics is about creating big beautiful smiles. I rarely extract teeth for orthodontic purposes. I want my patients to age as gracefully as possible, and the best way to help do that is with all of your teeth. You can be proactive instead of reactive if we anticipate your child will be very crowded and needs early intervention. Even though the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children be seen by an orthodontist by the age of 7, I only recommend treatment on 25% of the children seen at that age. On the flip side, it's never too late to get a beautiful smile. We take patients at any age as long as they have healthy teeth and gums. Currently, my oldest patient is 71.
What I love about South Pasadena is that so many patients know each other when they come into the office for treatment. Everyone in the South Pas community is so involved. That involvement is great for the schools and the community as a whole. I also love the many friendships that I have made even once I set their smiles free.
What is your favorite thing about SPMS sports?
My favorite thing about SPMS sports is that they give students the opportunity to try new sports and/or improve their performance in sports they are already playing. The school team helps foster that deeper connection to their school, classmates and the community.
What is your favorite sports memory in your or your family’s life?
I played badminton in 10th grade and was a cheerleader in 11th and 12th grade. They say hindsight is 20/20. Looking back I would wish I had played more sports in junior high (that's what they called middle school back then) and high school. I think it would have given me more confidence and maybe I could have even gotten a scholarship to play for a university.
